Senior SQL Server DBA / Administrator

SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the management of Dev and Production environments comprised of both SQL Standard, SQL Enterprise and Oracle DB's. The SQL DBA is the primary contact for upkeep, maintenance and daily oversight of all production databases across the Tennessee campus. The goal is to provide a seamless flow of information throughout the company, maintaining uptime and availability considering both backend data structure and frontend accessibility for end-users.

Job Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.
  • DBA is responsible for DB security management and oversight
  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
  • Apply data modeling techniques to ensure development and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations
  • Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes
  • Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement.
  • Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
  • Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers

Required Skills & Experience:
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and other database systems in all aspects of the application lifecycle: requirements analysis & definition, system design, implementation, testing, deployment, and sustainment
  • Monitors day to day operations and overall performance of SQL server environment and systems.
  • Install, configure and support SQL Server environment including SSRS, SSIS, SSAS
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL replication and AlwaysOn HA (Availability Groups architecture)
  • Work closely with other DBAs, Infrastructure team, application development team, business analysts and IT vendors to ensure high availability and proper functioning of databases.
  • Maintain database objects and perform database capacity planning, data modeling, data loads, troubleshooting, database backup and recovery
  • Perform best practices related to monitoring, security, and performance tuning (Operating System, SQL Server, Disk Utilization, TSQL queries).
  • Knowledge of Windows OS (2008-2019) as it relates to SQL Server functionality as well operational knowledge of the integration of SQL Server, Active Directory and MS OS
  • Experience in SQL Performance Tuning and Optimization using native monitoring and monitoring tools.
  • Experience in Upgrade/migration of new releases from Development to QA to Production including inbuilt custom and vendor applications with standard procedures.
  • Through advanced knowledge of MS Availability Groups (HA) including Failover clustering, replication, Logshipping and Availability Group architecture design and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with backups, restores and recovery models with third party tools
  • Knowledge of MS SQL Disaster Recovery (DR) processes

  • Working knowledge of Oracle database installations of Oracle databases (versions: 8.1.7, 9i, 10G, 11G and 12C) + advanced working knowledge of Oracle DB tuning, integrations and configurations.

Required Education & Certifications:
  • BS or MS in related industry/field (prefer Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems).
  • 10+ year's hands-on experience with installation, configuration, tuning and support of SQL Server
  • Experience supporting SQL Server in a virtualized environment
  • Experience with SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, Powershell
  • Experience supporting vendor package database
  • Experience with DBMS Dev Ops tools a plus

Required Licenses / Certifications:
  • MCTS, MCITP, and/or MVP certifications a plus
